Kibbutz Yahel was founded in 1977 by groups of Israeli and American ideologues. Yahel is situated in the Arava Valley, about 64 kilometers north of Eilat. Today, there are about 200 people living at Kibbutz Yahel.
There is a Liberal Jewish synagogue on site, in line with their belief in equality between men and women. For example, in the synagogue of the kibbutz, boys and girls together attend the Torah with a personal ceremony. The kosher dining room is open for daily lunch and Shabbat eve and holidays.
In Yahel there are tennis courts, football field and volleyball courts which are all available 24/7. The kibbutz itself is surrounded by olive trees and palm trees that rise in front of the Edom Mountains. In Yahel there are guest rooms called "Desert Spring".
The kibbutz’ activities are mainly centered on agriculture. There are around 50 volunteers in kibbutz Yahel, who assigned to work according to the needs of the kibbutz be it in the garden, the cowsheds, the packinghouse, the kitchen and dining room, the guesthouse, general maintenance and the kibbutz shop.
